The Happiness Complex

Often, I find it hard to talk with people who are going through a lot. I know listening is important, but at some point, when silences fall, it feels like I have to say something. Something good, something important, something comforting. But what’s there to say if I cannot even come close to understanding?

But honesty always seems to work, and though I find it hard to be carefully honest - and I’m often too slow with formulating my words - this album is what I would love to say in those moments.

The search for happiness can be a tough one. And when life doesn't seem to work along, it can even feel impossible. But I think there is happiness out there for every single one of us; there has to be. And even if I’m wrong - even if finding happiness is truly impossible for some people - I feel like it's best to keep on hoping for a bright future. A future in which you are happy again.

1. Beautiful World

We're living in a beautiful world
We're living in a beautiful world
We're living in a beautiful world
For those who see

* * *

Do you hear the birds sing their song
Why don't we all sing a while along
Do you see the landscape arise
Without any effort an artwork in disguise

We're living in a beautiful world
We're living in a beautiful world
We're living in a beautiful world
For those who see

Do you see the sun and the clouds
Painting bright the colors in the sky
Do you see the universe of stars
Endless far, endless wide

We're living in a beautiful world
We're living in a beautiful world
We're living in a beautiful world
For those who see

* * *

Look around you and you'll see
The beauty that is right beyond your feet
Look around you and you'll see
The beauty that's created, all for you and me
for you and me

2. The Wild

Every week is the same
But I don’t care
Cause now I can prepare
Slowly leaving my childhood
And I do care
Cause I liked it there

Growing older we lose some curiosity
Growing older we grow wiser and free

* * *

I’m not a man of adventure
I like being home
Being all alone
Thought the artist journey is uncertain
My life is not
With my office job

But growing further isn’t always achievable
When I stay inside these walls

Sometimes you have to go wild to see it all
Wild to see it’s beautiful
Wild to see it all
Sometimes you have to leave your cozy comfort zone
Leave your perfect place called home
Often you will have to decline, to reach a higher top

* * *

There’s a risk in every growth
Cause without losing
There is no winning
It can be a fiasco I know
But when I stop refusing
It all begins

Sometimes you have to go wild to see it all
Wild to see it’s beautiful
Wild to see it all
Sometimes you have to leave your cozy comfort zone
Leave your perfect place called home
Often you will have to decline, to reach a higher top

* * *

If you don't have the things you need
Find a way
Take the lead

We can go higher
We can go higher
We can go higher
We can go higher

4. Blessings

I didn’t like the thought of heaven
Although I was scared of hell
My mummy cared for me
Within a loving family
Life was like a Grand Hotel

But when I grew older I saw things that weren’t right
People I trusted doing things that weren’t right
Life doesn’t always suit my plans
Try to keep my focus on the rest

Call it a blessing when you're alright
Call it a blessing when you're home
And call it a blessing when you don't have to fight
Call it a blessing when you're not alone
Call it a blessing when you're seen
Call it a blessing when you're loved
Look around you and you'll see there are blessings everywhere

* * *

I know darkness can be overwhelming
And sometimes it is hard to see the light
When stable things are shaking
Because of my mistaking
And I can’t lose that feeling overnight

Sometimes I wish something bad happened to me
So I could find the blame in something outside of me
But deeply I know I am controlling
And I am happy that I know it

Call it a blessing when you're alright
Call it a blessing when you're home
And call it a blessing when you don't have to fight
Call it a blessing when you're not alone
Call it a blessing when you're seen
Call it a blessing when you're loved
Look around you and you'll see there are blessings everywhere

6. Round and Round and Round

Something feels familiar
I’ve walked this road before
I answered all these questions
I’ve thought this thought for sure
I settled on conclusions
They won’t do it anymore
Something feels familiar
I’ve been here before

Round and round and round it goes
Round and round and round it goes
Round and round and round it goes

I thought I traveled forwards
I’m sure I didn’t go back
But these creatures I defeated
Now swipe me from my track
I’m fighting even harder
I know I have become a stronger man
But this feeling suits familiar
He overtook my thoughts again

Round and round and round it goes
Round and round and round it goes
Round and round and round it goes

7. Rest in Peace

Was the rope too close
Was the place too high
Was there no one around
Or where they too shy
Was there anything we could do about it
Anything you could do about
Or nothing to be done at all

And I didn’t know
that your end was close
And I thought that things where fine
Was there no one around who could save you like you were
Was there no angel sent from above
Just someone who could show a little love

It’s such a difficult situation
When someone leaves his kids and wife
And when we know it is a waste
A waste of a good life
It’s such a difficult situation
When people say you went too far
And I can’t find my rest
In where you are

* * *

Since when do we believe that one sin is worse than the other
That is not what He has taught
Since when do we believe that we may judge the other
'Cause He will judge us too
And He doesn’t need our judgment too
And I could never judge you

It’s such a difficult situation
That someone who could help us all
Couldn’t fix his own life
And chose to fall
It’s such a difficult situation
When it had come so far
And I can’t find my rest
In where you are
And I can’t find my rest
In where you are
And I can’t find my rest
In where you are

* * *

But, I can find my rest
And I can find my peace
In this one thing
I can find my rest
And I can find my peace, just a little bit of peace
In this one thing

The only thing we know is that God knows the truth
The only thing we know is that God loves you
The only thing we know is that God knows the truth
And the only thing I can do, is pray
That you may rest in peace

* * *

The only thing we know is that God knows the truth
The only thing we know is that God loves you
The only thing we know is that God knows the truth
And the only thing I can do, is pray
That you may rest in peace
That you may rest in peace

8. True Smile

Sometimes it’s hard to smile
Sometimes it’s hard to live a happy while
I know
It’s hard to control
But keep on looking, keep on searching
Don’t let disappointment lure you in
And know
It’s hard to control

I know I might not be the one
To teach you how joy is done
‘Cause I am one of the lucky ones
But I just care for you
I hope you will be doing well
And will be released from this prison cell
Of having no real, true smile
I know you’re trying to

But sometimes it’s just hard to smile
Sometimes it’s hard to live a happy while
I know
It’s hard to control
But keep on looking, keep on searching
Don’t let disappointment lure you in
And know
It’s hard to control

* * *

Sometimes it’s hard to smile
Sometimes it’s hard to live a happy while
I know
It’s hard to control
But keep on looking, keep on searching
Cause one day you might find an opening
And I hope
It’s out of control
And it will make you whole

9. Cry (short version)

But now it is evening, some last bits of cleaning
And I think back to what life has been giving
My thoughts are overtaken by a tingling in my head
What an insanely beautiful day I’ve had

That hasn’t happened in the last long time
To be honest I don’t even know if it’ll happen soon again
I try to help my tears find the exit in my eyes
And I stop what I was doing cause this came as a surprise

Now I cry again
The wall’s been tumbling down
I’m right here right now
Now I finally cry again
Connected to my heart
Might be a brand new start

10. Life Inbetween

Jimmy was working, the radio sang it's songs
10 years of service at a woodworking shop
Skilled and motivated old panels came to thrive
People always praised him, he lived a happy life

The radio sang it's themesong, the sportsnews began
There had been scored a top goal by a 16 year old
Jimmy thought back to is old boyhood dreams
He's now over 30, never made the big screen

At the end of the day
We all need to sleep
We need to work to live a life
We need a meal to survive
Seen from the moon
We're all the same size
At the end of the night we need to wake up
We need to care for ourselves
And sometimes for someone else
The face in the scenes
Has a life in between

* * *

When he came home he found his lovely wife concerned
Their daughter had a bad day so he went to her room
There she was sitting, huddled on her bed
She looked up to Jimmy, then bowed down her head

She showed him the girls with the perfect insta feed
And told him she is loving a guy she'd never meet
Jimmy sat beside her, while she cried away her tears
He wrapped his arm around her, and this is what he said

At the end of the day
We all need to sleep
We need to work to live a life
We need a meal to survive
Seen from the moon
We're all the same size
At the end of the night we need to wake up
We need to care for ourselves
And sometimes for someone else
The face in the scenes
Has a life in between

11. Anthem of Freedom

It’s a Saturday morning
10 o’clock, it’s time to wake up
I pick up my phone to mute my alarm
And without thinking I open an app

But after hours of scrolling
A thought pops up in my head
If I wanna have a productive day
The first step is just to step out of bed

Free from my desires
Free from the world surrounding me
Free from a godly law
I wasn’t meant to be chained I’m meant to be free

* * *

When I have a useless meeting
Nothing to hear or to say
My eyelids get heavy, my head starts hanging
And I’m complaining all-day

But then I see my own planning
My own handwriting all over it
That was the moment I remembered again
Next time I have the freedom to skip
this meeting

Free from my desires
Free from the world surrounding me
Free from a godly law
I wasn’t meant to be chained I’m meant to be free

Free from my desires
Free from the world surrounding me
Free from a godly law
I wasn’t meant to be chained I’m meant to be free

* * *

People around me are praying
Taking time for God every day
Some people even take like an hour in the morning
While I don’t brush my teeth because I’m late

But my God isn’t counting my mistakes
There’s no need for counting to see I’m bad
But despite I am a terrible person
Despite I am a terrible person
Despite I am a terrible person
I’ll never feel his whip on my back
I’ll never feel his whip on my back
I’ll never feel his whip on my back

Free from my desires
Free from the world surrounding me
Free from a godly law
I wasn’t meant to be chained I’m meant to be free

Free from my desires
Free from the world surrounding me
Free from a godly law
I wasn’t meant to be chained I’m meant to be free

Free from a godly law
I wasn't meant to be chained I'm meant to be free
